Mapping healthcare
An agreement between the NHS Information Centre for Health and
Social Care and Ordnance Survey has enabled
digital mapping data to be supplied to the NHS on a pilot basis,
with encouraging results.

Stop smoking
with GIS
Geodemographic profiling benefits stop-smoking service
Nottingham's Stop-Smoking Service
used census data combined with post codes to determine the location of the groups with the
highest levels of smoking in the city. This allowed them to
identify the areas with the highest need for stop-smoking services.

Luton tPCT: Geographic information systems improve immunisation
uptake
Until 2005, Luton was among primary care trusts (PCTs) with the
lowest uptake of MMR and primary immunisation at 24 months.
Following a detailed project supported by geographic information
systems (GIS), however (see
Mapping Healthcare above), Luton now sits among elite PCTs, with immunisation uptake rates at 98% for primary
immunisations and 92% for MMR at 24 months. February 2007.
